1. Why is a Time Line so important?
Working out a Time Line will allow the bride to think through her "day" in an orderly manner. This step-by-step for the day will help her be less stressed about the way all the different activities will flow together. By having everything in writing, it keeps the wedding day from being as overwhelming in considering the day as a whole. Breaking down the day will allow her to see that everything can be accomplished. Even if the bride is a "no planner" kind of gal, she can still think through the major events that are supposed to take place on her wedding day and look for areas that need more attention than others.
2. How detailed does my Time Line need to be?
Many brides are pleased to have a Time Line with major categories and minimal details while others want a minute-by-minute schedule to help them think out their wedding day ahead of time.
If the bride is a major events person, she should make sure specific times are communicated to vendors and participants so they can "be there for her." Everyone and everything from the florist to the reception venue need to be coordinated for smooth sailing throughout the wedding day.
If the bride is a detailed organizer, she will want to fill in between the day's major events with times for everyone directly involved. Not only will she alert all vendors and venue representatives to their expected part to be played during her wedding day, but she will also want to fine tune times for participating family members (grandparents, flower girls, ring bears, etc.) and when they will be needed that day. Planning the smaller events within the major one is helpful to the brides who want more control over their proceedings.
3. Will my wedding coordinator provide me with a Time Line?
Yes, the bride can definitely expect her wedding coordinator to organize a Time Line. The bride needs to communicate to her coordinator how much detailing she wants on this routing of the day. The bride can request not only a schedule for the wedding but also ones for activities and events leading up to the big day... like the Bridesmaids' Luncheon or the Rehearsal/Rehearsal Dinner.
4. If I don't have a wedding coordinator, is it ok to ask my photographer to make me a Time Line?
Each photographer has their own way of working with or without a Time Line. Some photographers prefer to work out a Time Line after discussion with the bride so they can be better prepared for the wedding day and cover all the bride's "photo wish list." Other photographers will not be as involved in the planning and simply request a copy of the bride's Time Line....if she has one.
5. If the Time Line gets off track, how will this affect my big day?
When weddings are planned, despite the best organization, "life" happens, and Time Lines cannot be met exactly. From nervous stomachs to traffic jams, a variety of things may prevent the Time Line from happening exactly as planned. Remember that a Time Line is a guide....NOT a rule!
As with anything in this world, making plans for a wedding is helpful to keep events generally on course, and Time Lines are very useful resources. Hopefully, the bride will not panic if there's a slight detour here and there. In the end, her wedding day will take place with the love and support of friends and family and the expertise of the wedding professionals along to assist with the big event. Enjoy the wedding day with all its ups and downs that go along at any planned event!
